On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia lost one of its most prominent religious scholars, Sheikh Saleh bin Abdulaziz bin Muhammad Al Sheikh, at the age of 90. Born in Riyadh in 1933, Sheikh Saleh grew up in a family of scholars, with his father being one of the kingdom’s leading scholars and sheikhs.

Sheikh Saleh received his early education in Riyadh schools before enrolling in the College of Sharia in Mecca, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Islamic Sharia. He continued his postgraduate studies at the Islamic University in Medina, obtaining a master’s degree in jurisprudence, followed by a doctorate in Islamic studies from Al-Azhar University in Cairo.

Throughout his illustrious career, Sheikh Saleh held numerous academic and religious positions. He worked as a teacher at the College of Sharia at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University, later becoming the dean of the college. He also served as a member of the Council of Senior Scholars in Saudi Arabia, a member of the Permanent Committee for Islamic Research and Fatwas, and the president of the scientific council of the Muslim World League.

Sheikh Saleh was known for his vast knowledge and moderate fatwas, playing a significant role in promoting moderation and balance in Islamic thought. He authored numerous books and publications on jurisprudence, creed, and prophetic biography, with some of his most notable works being “The Major Rules of Jurisprudence” and “The Doctrinal Principles of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama’ah.”

In a 2018 statement, Sheikh Saleh said, “Islam is a moderate and balanced religion that calls for tolerance and peaceful coexistence among people, and fights extremism and excess in all their forms.”

Sheikh Saleh’s publications exceeded 50 books, in addition to hundreds of scientific lectures and lessons he delivered across the Muslim world. He received numerous awards and honors throughout his academic career, including the King Faisal International Prize in Islamic Studies in 2010.

Sheikh Saleh is considered one of the most prominent scholars who contributed to spreading Islamic knowledge and moderate thought in the kingdom and the Muslim world. He left behind a vast scientific legacy and students who benefited from his knowledge and jurisprudence in various parts of the world.

With the passing of Sheikh Saleh, the kingdom has lost one of its intellectual and religious icons, who dedicated his life to serving Islam and Muslims, and spreading moderation and balance in Islamic thought. في يوم الأربعاء الموافق 17 يناير 2024، فقدت المملكة العربية السعودية أحد أبرز علمائها الدينيين، الشيخ صالح بن عبد العزيز بن محمد آل الشيخ، عن عمر يناهز 90 عاماً. وُلد الشيخ صالح في الرياض عام 1933، ونشأ في بيت علم، حيث كان والده من كبار العلماء والمشايخ في المملكة.
تلقى الشيخ صالح تعليمه الأولي في مدارس الرياض، ثم التحق بكلية الشريعة في مكة المكرمة، حيث حصل على درجة البكالوريوس في الشريعة الإسلامية. واصل دراسته العليا في الجامعة الإسلامية بالمدينة المنورة، حيث حصل على درجة الماجستير في الفقه، ثم الدكتوراه في الدراسات الإسلامية من جامعة الأزهر بالقاهرة.
تقلد الشيخ صالح العديد من المناصب العلمية والدينية خلال مسيرته الحافلة. فقد عمل مدرساً في كلية الشريعة بجامعة الإمام محمد بن سعود الإسلامية، ثم عُيّن عميداً للكلية. كما شغل منصب عضو هيئة كبار العلماء بالسعودية، وعضو اللجنة الدائمة للإفتاء، ورئيس المجلس العلمي لـ “رابطة العالم الإسلامي”.
عُرف الشيخ صالح بعلمه الغزير وفتاواه المعتدلة، وكان له دور بارز في الدعوة إلى الوسطية والاعتدال في الفكر الإسلامي. وقد أصدر العديد من الكتب والمؤلفات في الفقه والعقيدة والسيرة النبوية، كان من أبرزها “القواعد الفقهية الكبرى” و”الأصول الاعتقادية لأهل السنة والجماعة”.
وفي تصريح له عام 2018، قال الشيخ صالح: “إن الإسلام دين وسطي معتدل، يدعو إلى التسامح والتعايش السلمي بين الناس، ويحارب التطرف والغلو بكل صورهما”.
وصلت مؤلفات الشيخ صالح إلى أكثر من 50 كتاباً، إضافة إلى مئات المحاضرات والدروس العلمية التي ألقاها في مختلف أنحاء العالم الإسلامي. وقد حصل على العديد من الجوائز والتكريمات خلال مسيرته العلمية، منها جائزة الملك فيصل العالمية في الدراسات الإسلامية عام 2010.
يُعد الشيخ صالح من أبرز العلماء الذين ساهموا في نشر العلم الشرعي والفكر الوسطي في المملكة والعالم الإسلامي. وقد ترك وراءه إرثاً علمياً ضخماً، وطلاباً نهلوا من علمه وفقهه في مختلف أنحاء العالم.
وبوفاة الشيخ صالح، تكون المملكة قد فقدت أحد أعلامها الفكرية والدينية، الذي عمل طوال حياته على خدمة الإسلام والمسلمين، ونشر الوسطية والاعتدال في الفكر الإسلامي. رحم الله الشيخ صالح وأسكنه فسيح جناته، وألهم أهله وطلابه ومحبيه الصبر والسلوان.

The “Winter at Tantora” festival kicked off its fifth edition in AlUla on February 25, 2023, with wide participation from Saudi and Arab artists and creatives, as part of the Royal Commission for AlUla’s efforts to enhance the city’s status as a leading tourist and cultural destination.

The festival, running until March 11, features over 140 diverse events, including musical concerts, theatrical and artistic performances, creative workshops, and interactive activities for children and families. Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, Governor of the Royal Commission for AlUla, emphasized that the festival aims to “highlight the unique cultural and natural heritage of the AlUla region and provide a platform for Saudi artists and creatives to express their talents and creativity.”

The opening ceremony featured a grand musical performance by the AlUla Symphony Orchestra and the Middle East Music Band, conducted by Spanish maestro Pablo Gonzalez. It also included spectacular fireworks displays and dazzling light shows on the historic rock facades of AlUla.

The Governor noted that the festival contributes to supporting the local economy and providing job opportunities for residents, with over 2,000 workers this year, the majority of whom are from AlUla.

Visitors can enjoy a wide range of cultural and entertainment experiences, including visits to famous archaeological sites like Madain Saleh and Al-Hijr, participation in workshops to learn traditional handicrafts, and attending documentary film screenings at the open-air cinema.

The “Winter at Tantora” festival is part of a series of events organized by the Royal Commission for AlUla throughout the year, aiming to achieve Saudi Vision 2030’s goals of diversifying the economy and enhancing Saudi Arabia’s status as a global tourist destination.

انطلقت اليوم الخمئس من فبراير 2023 في مدينة العلا فعاليات مهرجان “شتاء طنطورة” بنسخته الخامسة، بمشاركة واسعة من الفنانين والمبدعين السعوديين والعرب، في إطار جهود الهيئة الملكية لمحافظة العلا لتعزيز مكانة المدينة كوجهة سياحية وثقافية رائدة.
ويستمر المهرجان حتى 11 مارس المقبل، ويتضمن أكثر من 140 فعالية متنوعة بين حفلات موسيقية وعروض مسرحية وفنية، وورش عمل إبداعية، إلى جانب أنشطة تفاعلية للأطفال والعائلات. وأكد الأمير بدر بن عبد الله بن فرحان، محافظ الهيئة الملكية لمحافظة العلا، أن المهرجان يهدف إلى “إبراز التراث الثقافي والطبيعي الفريد لمنطقة العلا، وتوفير منصة للفنانين والمبدعين السعوديين للتعبير عن مواهبهم وإبداعاتهم”.
وشهد حفل الافتتاح عرضاً موسيقياً ضخماً بمشاركة أوركسترا العلا السيمفوني، وفرقة موسيقى الشرق الأوسط، بقيادة المايسترو الإسباني بابلو غونزاليس. كما أقيمت عروض للألعاب النارية وعروض ضوئية مبهرة على الواجهات الصخرية التاريخية في العلا.
وأشار محافظ العلا إلى أن المهرجان يسهم في دعم الاقتصاد المحلي وتوفير فرص عمل للسكان، حيث بلغ عدد العاملين في المهرجان هذا العام أكثر من 2000 شخص، غالبيتهم من أبناء وبنات العلا.
ويمكن للزوار الاستمتاع بمجموعة واسعة من التجارب الثقافية والترفيهية، من بينها زيارة المواقع الأثرية الشهيرة مثل مدائن صالح والحِجر، والمشاركة في ورش عمل لتعلم الحرف اليدوية التقليدية، وحضور عروض الأفلام الوثائقية في سينما الهواء الطلق.
ويأتي مهرجان “شتاء طنطورة” ضمن سلسلة من الفعاليات التي تنظمها الهيئة الملكية لمحافظة العلا على مدار العام، بهدف تحقيق رؤية المملكة 2030 في تنويع الاقتصاد وتعزيز مكانة السعودية كوجهة سياحية عالمية.

The Arabian Peninsula witnessed a significant historical event more than 270 years ago, marked by the establishment of the First Saudi State by Imam Muhammad bin Saud bin Muhammad bin Muqrin, the first ruler of the Al Saud family. Born in 1090 AH/1679 AD, Muhammad bin Saud assumed the emirate of Diriyah in 1139 AH/1727 AD after the death of his father, Saud Al Kabeer.

Muhammad bin Saud succeeded in unifying vast areas of Najd under the banner of Diriyah, making it the capital of his emirate. In 1157 AH/1744 AD, he signed a historic agreement with Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab, laying the foundation for the First Saudi State, which ruled most of the Arabian Peninsula for over a century.

Muhammad bin Saud is considered a pivotal figure in Saudi history, as he laid the solid foundation for the modern Saudi state. Historians praised his political acumen and his ability to reconcile various tribes and factions in the region.

Historian Uthman bin Bishr described the Emir of Diriyah as: “A righteous, wise, resolute, and awe-inspiring man, who traveled extensively, was generous and praiseworthy, beloved by the people of his region, devoted to worship and charity, and constantly engaged in jihad for the sake of Allah.”

Muhammad bin Saud ruled Diriyah for 40 years, passing away in 1179 AH/1765 AD at the age of 89, succeeded by his son Abdulaziz as the Emir of Diriyah, continuing the journey of the First Saudi State founded by his father.

Muhammad bin Saud’s journey serves as a model of wise leadership and foresight, as he was able to establish a strong and unified state under highly complex political and social conditions. His legacy remains alive in the hearts of Saudis, embodying the values of unity, stability, and development that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia strives to achieve in the modern era.

شهدت شبه الجزيرة العربية قبل أكثر من 270 عاماً حدثاً تاريخياً مهماً تمثل في قيام الدولة السعودية الأولى على يد الإمام محمد بن سعود بن محمد بن مقرن، أول حكام آل سعود. وُلد محمد بن سعود عام 1090هـ/1679م، وتولى إمارة الدرعية عام 1139هـ/1727م بعد وفاة والده سعود الكبير.
تمكن محمد بن سعود من توحيد مناطق واسعة من نجد تحت راية الدرعية، واتخذ منها عاصمة لإمارته. وفي عام 1157هـ/1744م، وقع اتفاقية تاريخية مع الشيخ محمد بن عبد الوهاب، أسست لقيام الدولة السعودية الأولى التي حكمت معظم أراضي شبه الجزيرة العربية لأكثر من قرن.
يُعد محمد بن سعود شخصية محورية في التاريخ السعودي، حيث وضع الأساس المتين للدولة السعودية الحديثة. وقد أشاد المؤرخون بحنكته السياسية وقدرته على التوفيق بين مختلف القبائل والفصائل في المنطقة.
وصف المؤرخ عثمان بن بشر أمير الدرعية بقوله: “كان رجلاً صالحاً عاقلاً حازماً شديد الهيبة، كثير الأسفار، جواداً ممدحاً، محبوباً عند أهل ناحيته، كثير العبادة والصدقات، كثير الجهاد في سبيل الله”.
استمر حكم محمد بن سعود للدرعية 40 عاماً، تُوفي خلالها عام 1179هـ/1765م عن عمر يناهز 89 عاماً، ليخلفه ابنه عبد العزيز على إمارة الدرعية، وتستمر مسيرة الدولة السعودية الأولى التي أسسها والده.
تُعد مسيرة محمد بن سعود نموذجاً للقيادة الحكيمة والرؤية الثاقبة، حيث استطاع تأسيس دولة قوية وموحدة في ظروف سياسية واجتماعية بالغة التعقيد. يظل إرثه حياً في نفوس السعوديين، ويُجسد قيم الوحدة والاستقرار والتنمية التي تسعى المملكة العربية السعودية لتحقيقها في العصر الحديث.

In a historic move reflecting Saudi Arabia’s commitment to international development, the Saudi Fund for Development announced the establishment of the “Saudi Fund for Development Program” on the occasion of its 53rd anniversary. This announcement comes as part of a new strategy aimed at enhancing the Fund’s efforts to support comprehensive and sustainable development projects in various countries worldwide.

On this occasion, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Fund for Development stated: “We are pleased to announce this initiative, which comes within our vision to enhance the Kingdom’s role in supporting international development, and which will contribute to empowering communities and achieving sustainable development in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”

Since its establishment in 1970, the Saudi Fund for Development has provided concessional loans and grants to finance development projects in more than 90 countries around the world, with a total value exceeding $100 billion. Since its inception, the Fund has focused on supporting vital sectors such as infrastructure, energy, water, health, and education, contributing to improving the quality of life of millions of people.

Under the new program, the Fund will focus on supporting projects that enhance sustainable development and contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, with a particular focus on enhancing climate change adaptation capacity and supporting the most vulnerable communities.

This initiative comes within the framework of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to enhance the Kingdom’s role as an active global partner in the field of international development, and reflects its commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and supporting the efforts of the international community in this regard.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors concluded his speech by saying: “We believe that sustainable development is the best way to build a better future for all, and we are committed to supporting the efforts of the international community in achieving these noble goals.”

His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Talal bin Badr, Deputy Governor of the Asir Region, honored Engineer Saleh bin Abdul Karim Al-Mugamis, Mayor of Tanumah, with the Government Excellence Award for 2023, in recognition of his outstanding efforts in developing municipal services and improving the quality of life in the region.

Al-Mugamis received the award during a ceremony organized by the Asir Region Emirate, attended by several officials and those interested in municipal work. His Highness praised the tangible achievements made by the Tanumah Municipality under Al-Mugamis’s leadership, emphasizing the importance of honoring distinguished leaders who contribute to achieving the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

In a statement, Al-Mugamis expressed his pride and honor at this recognition, affirming that it is the fruit of collective work and continuous support from the wise leadership. He added: “We will continue to work diligently to develop municipal services and achieve the aspirations of the region’s residents.”

It is worth noting that the Tanumah Municipality witnessed significant improvements in infrastructure and municipal services during Al-Mugamis’s tenure, making it a model to be emulated in the region.

كرّم صاحب السمو الملكي الأمير سعود بن طلال بن بدر، نائب أمير منطقة عسير، المهندس صالح بن عبد الكريم المغامسي، رئيس بلدية تنومة، بجائزة التميّز الحكومي لعام 2023م، تقديراً لجهوده المتميزة في تطوير الخدمات البلدية وتحسين جودة الحياة في المنطقة.
وتسلم المغامسي الجائزة خلال الحفل الذي نظمته إمارة منطقة عسير، بحضور عدد من المسؤولين والمهتمين بالعمل البلدي. وقد أشاد سموه بالإنجازات الملموسة التي حققتها بلدية تنومة تحت قيادة المغامسي، مؤكداً أهمية تكريم القيادات المتميزة التي تسهم في تحقيق رؤية المملكة 2030.
وفي تصريح له، عبّر المغامسي عن فخره واعتزازه بهذا التكريم، مؤكداً أنه ثمرة للعمل الجماعي والدعم المستمر من القيادة الرشيدة. وأضاف: “سنواصل العمل بجد لتطوير الخدمات البلدية وتحقيق تطلعات سكان المنطقة”.
يذكر أن بلدية تنومة شهدت خلال فترة تولي المغامسي رئاستها تحسينات كبيرة في البنية التحتية والخدمات البلدية، ما جعلها نموذجاً يحتذى به في المنطقة.
