Hail Hosts the Third Edition of the Date Festival
The third edition of the Date Festival kicked off in Hail region under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Saad bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Hail region, and in the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Engineer Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadhli, along with several officials.
The festival, which continues until the end of November, aims to highlight the economic and social role of palm trees in the Kingdom and enhance Hail’s position as one of the most important date-producing regions in the Kingdom.
His Excellency the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Engineer Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli, indicated that the Kingdom produces approximately 1.5 million tons of dates annually, of which 1.2 million tons are consumed locally, while the remainder is exported to various countries around the world.
In turn, the Director of the Environment, Water and Agriculture Branch in Hail region, Engineer Saleh Al-Mughamis, explained that Hail region contains more than 5 million palm trees that produce approximately 75,000 tons of dates annually. He noted that the festival contributes to supporting farmers and marketing their products.
The festival, held at the Hail Exhibitions and Conference Center, witnessed great turnout from visitors who learned about the different types of dates and enjoyed the accompanying activities that included folkloric performances and heritage segments.
Al-Mughamis affirmed that the festival contributes to enhancing agricultural tourism in the region and opens new horizons for investment in the palm and date sector, expecting that this year’s festival will achieve great success as happened in the previous two editions.
It is worth mentioning that Hail region is considered one of the most important palm cultivation areas in the Kingdom, as it is characterized by a suitable climate and fertile soil, which made it host many farms that produce the finest types of dates such as Khalas, Sukkari, Ruziz, and other distinctive varieties.
