في ذكرى مرور 275 عاماً على تأسيس الدولة السعودية الأولى، نستعيد سيرة قائدها المؤسس الملك محمد بن سعود بن محمد بن مقرن (1090-1179هـ)، الذي استطاع بحنكته السياسية وشجاعته العسكرية أن يضع حجر الأساس لما سيصبح لاحقاً المملكة العربية السعودية.
ولد الملك محمد بن سعود في مدينة الدرعية عام 1090هـ، ونشأ في أسرة آل مقرن الحاكمة، وتولى إمارة الدرعية عام 1139هـ. وفي عام 1157هـ، وقع اتفاقاً تاريخياً مع الشيخ محمد بن عبد الوهاب، أدى إلى قيام التحالف القوي بين القوة السياسية والقوة الدينية، مما مهد الطريق لإعلان قيام الدولة السعودية الأولى عام 1157هـ.
خلال فترة حكمه التي استمرت 40 عاماً، نجح الملك محمد بن سعود في توحيد معظم مناطق نجد تحت راية الدولة السعودية الفتية. وقد امتد نفوذ الدولة خلال عهده ليشمل منطقة القصيم والإحساء والأحساء وجنوب العراق، وصولاً إلى حدود دولة الكويت الحالية.
أشاد المؤرخون بحكمة الملك محمد بن سعود وقدرته على بناء جيش قوي ومنظم، وإقامة علاقات دبلوماسية متوازنة مع الدول المجاورة. كما تميز عهده بتطبيق الشريعة الإسلامية في جميع مناحي الحياة، وتشجيع العلم والتعليم.
توفي الملك محمد بن سعود عام 1179هـ، تاركاً وراءه إرثاً عظيماً ودولة قوية. وقد قال عنه ابنه وخليفته الإمام عبد العزيز بن محمد بن سعود: “كان أبي رحمه الله رجلاً صالحاً، عادلاً في حكمه، محبوباً من رعيته، ساعياً في مصالحهم”.
اليوم، وبعد قرون من الزمن، لا تزال مبادئ الملك محمد بن سعود وقيمه تشكل المرجعية الأساسية للحكم في المملكة العربية السعودية. فقيادته الحكيمة ورؤيته الثاقبة مهدت الطريق لتوحيد البلاد وبناء دولة عصرية قوية، تقف اليوم شاهدة على عظمة هذا القائد المؤسس.

احتفلت المملكة العربية السعودية اليوم بالذكرى السنوية الأولى لـ”يوم التأسيس” الذي يوافق 22 فبراير من كل عام، وذلك بموجب الأمر الملكي الصادر عن خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك سلمان بن عبد العزيز آل سعود في يناير 2022.
وأكد وزير الثقافة السعودي الأمير بدر بن عبد الله بن فرحان آل سعود في تصريح صحفي أن “يوم التأسيس مناسبة وطنية عزيزة على قلوبنا جميعاً، يستذكر فيها السعوديون قصة التأسيس المجيدة التي بدأت قبل 3 قرون على يد الإمام محمد بن سعود عام 1727م، عندما أرسى دعائم الدولة السعودية الأولى”.
وأضاف الأمير بدر أن “الاحتفال بيوم التأسيس يأتي لنستلهم منه قيم الاعتزاز بالجذور الراسخة والارتباط الوثيق بين القيادة والشعب، والتمسك بالثوابت والمبادئ والأخلاق التي قامت عليها الدولة السعودية منذ نشأتها”.
وشهدت مختلف مناطق المملكة خلال اليوم الوطني للتأسيس العديد من الفعاليات والأنشطة الثقافية والتراثية، حيث ازدانت الشوارع والميادين بالأعلام والزينة، ونُظمت عروض فلكلورية وفنية تحتفي بالهوية الوطنية.
وفي الرياض، شهد مركز الملك عبد العزيز التاريخي احتفالية رسمية حضرها كبار المسؤولين والشخصيات العامة، تضمنت عرضاً مرئياً عن مسيرة التأسيس والإنجازات التي تحققت خلال 3 قرون.
وأشار الأمير بدر بن عبد الله إلى أن “يوم التأسيس يمثل فرصة للأجيال الشابة للتعرف على تاريخ بلادهم العريق ودور الأئمة والملوك في بناء الدولة السعودية وتوحيدها والارتقاء بها إلى مصاف الدول المتقدمة”.
واختتم الوزير تصريحاته بالقول: “إننا اليوم، وبعد 3 قرون من التأسيس، نعيش عصر النهضة والازدهار بقيادة خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك سلمان بن عبد العزيز وولي عهده الأمين صاحب السمو الملكي الأمير محمد بن سلمان، حفظهما الله، ونستشرف مستقبلاً زاهراً لوطننا الغالي في ظل رؤية المملكة 2030 الطموحة”.
وكان خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك سلمان بن عبد العزيز قد أصدر في 27 يناير 2022 أمراً ملكياً يقضي بأن يكون يوم 22 فبراير من كل عام يوماً لذكرى تأسيس الدولة السعودية، باسم (يوم التأسيس)، ويصبح إجازة رسمية.
ويأتي الاحتفاء بيوم التأسيس كمبادرة وطنية تهدف إلى تعزيز الاعتزاز بالهوية الوطنية والارتباط بالجذور التاريخية العريقة للمملكة، وإحياءً لذكرى مرور 3 قرون على انطلاق مسيرة التأسيس على يد الإمام محمد بن سعود عام 1727م.

On September 23, 1932, King Abdulaziz Al Saud issued a royal decree to unify the parts of the Arabian Peninsula under the name “Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” announcing the birth of a new state in the region.

This historic step was the culmination of three decades of tireless efforts by King Abdulaziz to unite the scattered tribes and emirates under one banner. This unification came after a series of battles and political agreements that began with the recapture of Riyadh in 1902.

King Abdulaziz said on this occasion: “We announce the establishment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and we pray to God to guide us to serve our people and achieve their aspirations for progress and prosperity.”

Since its founding, the Kingdom has witnessed a qualitative leap in all fields. In 1938, oil was discovered in the Eastern Province, marking a huge economic leap. By 1960, the Kingdom had become one of the world’s largest producers and exporters of oil.

The Kingdom has been keen to develop its infrastructure and public services. In 1953, the first Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources was established, and in 1970, King Saud University was opened, becoming the first government university in the Kingdom.

In the field of education, school enrollment rates rose from only 2% at the founding of the Kingdom to more than 99% today. Life expectancy also increased from 38 years in 1950 to more than 74 years today.

On the international level, the Kingdom played a pivotal role in founding the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in 1960, and in 1981, it was one of the founding countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Today, 91 years after its founding, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues its path of development and construction under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and his Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Through Saudi Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia seeks to achieve a qualitative leap in its economy and society, to become among the ranks of advanced countries.

Riyadh, the Saudi capital, is preparing to host the fifth edition of LEAP 2026, one of the world’s leading tech conferences, from March 9 to 12, 2026, under the theme “Into New Worlds.”

The conference comes at a time when the global tech sector is seeking new opportunities for growth, investment, and integration, with a focus on the role of innovation in shaping economies, sectors, and societies.

The event will bring together leaders and experts from global and prominent companies, including Google, Amazon Web Services, Luma AI, Advanced Micro Devices, Qualcomm, Cisco, Lenovo, HP, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Huawei, Foxconn, and Cerebras Systems, alongside national companies such as STC, Aramco, Elm, Alat, and Humain.

The lineup of speakers includes Matt Garman, CEO of Amazon Web Services; Justin Hotard, CEO of Nokia; Tariq Amin, CEO of Humain; Andrew Feldman, CEO of Cerebras Systems; Han Jessica Bax, Vice President of Ernst & Young Foundation; and Chandra Donelson from the U.S. Space Force.

The conference will focus on topics such as artificial intelligence, data, and advanced technologies, as well as GameX Creative, sports technology, and a new platform for business networking.

The event will also feature a program for investors and startups, offering $1 million in prizes, bringing together startups and investors across 60 tech sectors, with participation from the Public Investment Fund, the Saudi Venture Capital Company, 500 Global, Rakuten Capital, and 20VC.

According to organizers, since its launch in 2022, LEAP has attracted over 688,000 participants across four editions, with 2,480 startups and 6,200 companies participating, and more than 5,000 investors. The 2025 edition saw deals and announcements worth $14.9 billion, with an economic impact of $820 million.

Organizers expect the 2026 edition to attract 201,000 visitors, 1,000 speakers, and 1,900 investors.

In a historic achievement with profound implications for the Saudi state’s journey, Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan recently announced that the Kingdom has achieved a budget surplus for the first time since 2013, thanks to the comprehensive economic reforms implemented by the government. This achievement comes within the Kingdom’s ambitious vision to diversify income sources and enhance financial sustainability.

On the social front, the current year witnessed the launch of a wide package of developmental initiatives, including allocating 10 billion riyals to support the housing sector and launching the developmental housing program to raise the homeownership rate to 70% by 2030. Additionally, the amended social security system was approved to improve the living standards of the most needy families.
