Saudi Media: A Qualitative Leap in Local Content Production
The Saudi media industry has witnessed an unprecedented renaissance in recent years, as the General Authority for Audiovisual and Broadcasting Media launched numerous ambitious initiatives to enhance local content and develop the sector. Authority President Badr bin Abdullah Al-Shibili confirmed that the authority is working diligently to achieve a qualitative leap in the media industry in the Kingdom.
The authority’s most prominent initiatives include the launch of the “Shahid” streaming platform, which aims to support Saudi and Arab content. The platform has reached more than 3 million subscribers since its launch two years ago. The authority has also launched the “Bab” program to support and develop the Saudi film industry, funding 11 feature films with a total value of SAR 100 million.
As part of its efforts to regulate the sector, the authority has issued more than 100 licenses to media content production and distribution companies. It has also organized numerous film events and festivals, such as the Red Sea International Film Festival, which saw the participation of more than 130 films from 67 countries.
Al-Shibili praised these achievements, affirming that the authority is moving steadily toward achieving the goals of Vision 2030 in the media sector, and that future initiatives and qualitative projects will further enhance the Kingdom’s position as a regional and global center for the media industry.
